Physical Education and Sport Week

This week is National Physical Education and Sport Week, and this year’s theme,

“Move Every Body, Every Day, Every Way,” is a great way to motivate kids to get up and get moving.

Daily physical activity is instrumental for children to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles. Modern-day conveniences have made a sedentary lifestyle all too easy for kids. It is up to parents to ensure that their children participate in physical activity both at school and home. Here are a few ways you can make this happen:

-Encourage your children’s school to include more physical education classes and
recess time.

-Encourage your children to participate in school or community-sponsored sports
programs. Sports teach team work, self-discipline and coordination.

-Get active with your kids. You don’t have to be a great athlete to go for a jog,
play tag or swim with them at your local pool.

Besides helping your kids stay healthy, regular physical activity also helps kids perform better in the classroom. New evidence shows children find it easier to pay attention when they’ve been active.
